The smell of roasting chilies signals the end of summer and the beginning of fall. The annual Chile & Frijoles Festival, held each year the third weekend after Labor Day, is Pueblo’s harvest celebration. The festival is hosted by the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce.
Every year, thousands pay homage to Pueblo’s best-loved crop: green chilies, particularly Pueblo Chile. The event features live entertainment, street vendors, cooking competitions, and chilies, chilies, chilies! Held downtown along Union Avenue, the festival draws Pueblo residents as well as people from across the state and around the nation.
There are 2 farmers market locations where festival-goers can sample and purchase the season’s most-loved crop: the SRDA Parking Lot (230 N. Union Ave) and in front of the Vail Hotel (217 S. Grand Ave.).
The annual Chili and Frijoles festival is September 26-27 from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Pueblo. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash. The $5 gate admission will NOT be required this year. Patrons may opt to donate gate admission and receive a coupon for $2 off any beverage.
