SUMMARY:Monument Hill Kiwanis Empty Bowls Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Empty Bowls Dinner:  Community pulls together to benefit Tri-Lakes Cares \nEmpty bowls benefits Tri-Lakes Cares (tri-lakescares.org) a community-based\, volunteer-supported\, resource center whose purpose is to improve people’s lives through emergency\, self-sufficiency and relief programs. As the only food pantry and human services organization located in\, and serving the northern El Paso County\, they are a critical resource for those in need. This year’s event will be held on October 4 from 5 to 7:30 PM. \nThe Empty Bowls program started here in 1992 when local potters Anne Shimek and Linda Pankratz organized local clubs to sponsor the Tri-Lakes event.  Initially held at the Mennonite Church\, the event netted $3\,500 local artists produced 350 bowls for this first event. \nFour years later\, Monument Hill Sertoma which is now Monument Hill Kiwanis stepped up to manage the event along with their Serteen Club (now K clubs)\, composed of local high school students.  Since 1998\, the event has been held in Lewis-Palmer High School and students from several K Clubs staff functions critical to the event’s success. \nOver the years\, the number of bowls required has increased to 1\,000 to match attendance. Many of the bowls are produced\, start to finish at Clay N Colors\, managed by Dusty Severn. Thanks to a generous donation from her landlord\, John Dominowski\, Clay N Colors provides studio time dedicated to this project\, as well as materials\, to potters one morning a week. \nTicket price has increased to $25 per person ($30 at the door).  Tickets may be purchased at the Kiwanis website (MHKiwanis.org) or at local businesses also listed on the web site. To facilitate family participation\, one child under the age of 12 is admitted free with a ticket holding adult.  In addition to a hand-made bowl\, patrons are provided a meal of soup\, bread\, beverage and dessert which are provided by donations from local restaurants\, merchants\, clubs\, and churches. \nThis is the 30th annual Monument Hill Kiwanis Empty Bowls Dinner and Silent Auction managed by Tri-Lakes Cares.  The project is now dedicated solely to the support of Tri-Lakes Cares which\, in recent years\, has received more than $20\,000 annually from the event.

SUMMARY:Acoustic Eidolon at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Fate has a magical way of bringing people together. Take the case of Joe and Hannah\, aka Acoustic Eidolon. In 1995\, Hannah\, a studio cellist\, received a call to play on a Boulder ensemble’s record. Hannah listened in amazement as directions to the recording studio told her to turn on a small road near her home\, and then turn down her own street past her house! \nLittle did Hannah know that across the street and three houses away lived Joe\, the greatest double-neck guitjo player in the world (OK\, the only double-neck guitjo player in the world). \nA few years after they met\, Joe and Hannah both found themselves between full-time musical engagements. Joe called Hannah\, saying he’d always wanted to hear the cello and the guitjo together. He had a feeling the harp-like sound of the guitjo\, combined with the warmth of Hannah’s cello\, would be beautiful together. \nSo on a snowy day in February 1998\, they got together to play for the first time. What happened next was magic. Captivated by the music they created together\, Joe and Hannah immediately agreed to clear out their schedules\, start rehearsing full-time\, and form what would become Acoustic Eidolon. \nBut fate wasn’t finished with Hannah and Joe. What started as a musical/business partnership and friendship blossomed into their marriage on October 14\, 2001. Hannah and Joe (and sons Zach and Alex) became a family. Joe and Hannah joke that this was a marriage of convenience since they were already together all the time anyway!  But anyone watching them perform can feel the love that draws them together. Their love for one another\, and their passion for life\, speaks through their music. \nSaturday\, September 16\, 7:00 p.m. \nAdvance Tickets: $20 TLCA Members; $25 Non-Members.\nDay of Show Tickets: $25 TLCA Members; $30 Non-Members.\nReserved Seating: +$10 per ticket \nVisit TriLakesArts.org for tickets.  The TLCA is located at 304 Hwy 105 in Palmer Lake.  Call 719-481-0475 for more information

SUMMARY:Escape Room: Let’s Taco ‘bout Books
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the PPLD/Monument Branch \nSaturday\, July 8\, 2023 \n3:00pm – 4:00pm \nWe love tacos\, so we stepped into what we thought was a taco truck. Instead\, we found ourselves in the middle of what looked like a bookmobile. While we do love books as much as tacos\, everything in this mobile library seems to be twisted\, upside-down\, and nothing makes sense. We tried to open one of the books\, but they all seemed out of reach. We are in a library that won’t let us read any of the books and there are no tacos! We need to get things back in order and break out of this bizarre bookmobile to get some tacos! \nRegistration for this escape room event will be open from June 24\, 2023 8:00 a.m. to July 8\, 2023 3:00 p.m. \nAllowed Ages: 12 to 18 \nThe PPLD Monument Branch is located at 1706 Lake Woodmoor Dr. in Monument.  719.531.6333 ext. 7005 for more information.

SUMMARY:Independence Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:The registration window for the Monument Hill Kiwanis 4th of July Parade is open through June 27th.  This year’s parade will step off at 10:00 AM\, the children’s parade precedes it beginning at 9:45 AM. \nEach year\, the Club organizes and operates a parade of well over 100 units through downtown Monument which is viewed by more than 15\,000 spectators.  Your organization\, club\, or business can participate in what has been called “the biggest small-town parade in America.” \nThis year’s parade theme is “The Greatest Generation – Honoring our WWII Veterans.”  Our theme honors all those who served our nation\, at home and abroad\, at a time of great risk to the future of the world.  We honor them with our parade because their effort\, in the face of great personal sacrifice\, protected our nation—and the world—from the threat of a ruthless government and a future without democracy.  We honor them for the independence and liberty they helped to preserve so that we may celebrate a brighter future. \nFor the Children’s Parade there is no entry fee/registration.  All children are welcomed\, and parents may accompany their children. For safety reasons motorized bikes\, scooters\, etc. are not allowed. \nFor the Main Parade\, there is a registration fee of $65 to help offset the cost of the parade.  Bands\, veteran’s & military groups\, 1st responders\, & school groups are exempt from the fee. \nParade information\, rules\, & registration are available at MHKiwanis.org.
