DESCRIPTION:The 2025 PPLD Summer Adventure presented by Friends of Pikes Peak Library District\, runs through Thursday\, July 31 at all library locations. This year’s theme is Color Our World. People of all ages can read\, explore\, and create their way to prizes this summer.\n  Anyone ages 0 – 18 participating in this year’s Summer Adventure program will receive a book for registering and can earn another prize when they complete the program. Studies have shown that having books at home increases literacy and learning for kids and teens\, and that students who read over summer break retain more of their learning and have a stronger start when school resumes in the fall. Participants ages 19 and up will receive one entry into the grand prize drawing when they register. Everyone of all ages will also be entered into the grand prize drawing for complete 30 days of reading\, creating\, or exploring.\n Participants can find activity ideas at ppld.org/summer

DESCRIPTION:Exhibitor submissions are open now through Sat.\, April 12 for the Library’s annual All Pikes Peak Makes event\, taking place this year on Sat.\, April 26 at Library 21c.  All Pikes Peak Makes is a celebration of creativity and ingenuity where tinkerers and crafters can introduce the community to new crafts\, technology\, problem-solving\, and the world of “making.”  In the past\, exhibitors have helped kids build and launch paper rockets (which are still stuck in the ceiling at Library 21c today); inspired people with elaborate 3D printed creations; shown people how to make a working button-light using a watch battery\, magnets\, and a small LED bulb: introduced people to sewing square marshmallow plush animals from scrap fabric; and much more.  Anyone interested in exhibiting should submit their application to ppld/APPM

DESCRIPTION:Each year\, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2\, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The annual event is part of Read Across America\, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. Since the event is designed to encourage reading in children and is fostered through the schools\, when March 2 lands on a weekend\, as it is this year\, the day is observed on the closest school day\, which is March 3 this year. \nThis motivational and awareness day calls all children and youth in every community across the United States to celebrate reading. It encourages them to read where ever they are. Great ways to inspire reading in children include: \nKeep books everywhere you spend time. Put them in the car\, in every room of the house\, and tuck them in backpacks and purses. Make them easily accessible. \nVisit the library often. SUMMARY:Cripple Creek Ice Fest
DESCRIPTION:The organizers of the Cripple Creek Ice Festival have announced the 2025 Cripple Creek Ice Festival\, February 15-23.  The head-to-head carving challenges will also be returning to the event on Saturdays at 12:00\, 1:30 and 3:00.  Carvers will compete in a stadium setting for a $1\,000 cash prize each weekend.  Carving teams will also be doing their best to win the People’s Choice Award for a huge cash prize.  Plan your visit and cast your vote for the most impressive carving. \nThis event is free and open to the general public.  Carvers will be working throughout the event on their sculptures.  Activities\, vendors\, and head-to-head carving competitions will only take place on the weekends (Feb 15-17 and Feb 22-23) including President’s Day.  The vendor and activities will happen between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.\, weather permitting.  \nAside from the beautiful ice sculpture displays\, patrons will also enjoy the tons of activities that await them. There will be ice slides and interactive ice sculptures that will make for plenty of Kodak picture-perfect moments. There’s also an ice maze for all to explore.
