SUMMARY:Monument Hill Kiwanis Korner
DESCRIPTION:Monument Hill Kiwanis Club (MHKC) raises funds to enable our mission of Making a Difference for Youth and Our Community by conducting a one-day craft fair which will be held on December 6th between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. \n This year’s fair will be held in Bear Creek Elementary School\, 1330 Creekside Dr.\, Monument (the intersection of Creekside and Leather Chaps).  Vendors purchase space to present their wares for sale and local churches prepare baked goods for purchase by craft fair patrons.  Entry is free but patrons are requested to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to Tri-Lakes Cares (T-LC).   \n MHKC volunteers set up and break down the display area at Grace Best for the event and assist vendors when requested.  Volunteers also provide assistance during the event to vendors or patrons.  MHKC volunteers contribute about 100 hours annually to this project. \n Last year’s North Pole Craft Fair drew nearly 2\,000 visitors. They shopped 75 vendors (including Kiwanian Jim Taylor\, shown here whose net profit from the sale of wooden toys are aggregated with booth space rentals). The net proceeds of their booth fees will be used to support programs to benefit youth in the Tri-Lakes area. This “Cookie Walk” will be hosted by Tri-Lakes United Methodist Church and will benefit T-LC.  Additionally\, last year T-LC received cash donations of more than $1\,000\, 653 lbs. of food as well as toys and games. Additionally\, “4 Kidz” received donations of new and lightly used sports equipment.  All of these donations will have a significant impact on the Christmas experience for the families served by T-LC. \n See the MHKiwanis.org website for more information and join us for a meeting to see what we’re all about.  See ad on previous page.

SUMMARY:Small Business Saturday
DESCRIPTION:As the holiday season gets underway\, Small Business Saturday—November 29 this year—is a reminder to support the shops\, restaurants\, and service providers that keep our local economy strong. \nIt’s easy to default to online shopping or big-box retailers\, but local businesses play a much bigger role in our day-to-day lives. They employ neighbors\, contribute to community projects\, and bring unique character to our area. Choosing to shop locally helps keep those businesses thriving and those benefits close to home. \nShopping small isn’t limited to retail. Picking up a meal at a neighborhood restaurant\, booking a service\, or purchasing a gift card from a local gym or salon are all meaningful ways to take part. These choices often come with a level of quality and personal attention you won’t find from larger chains. \nThere’s also a practical impact: money spent locally tends to stay in the community\, supporting other businesses\, jobs\, and local initiatives. It’s a simple way to make your holiday spending work harder for the place where you live. \nThis November\, consider carving out part of your holiday budget for Small Business Saturday. Explore what our area has to offer—you may be surprised at the unique options right in your own backyard. Supporting local businesses isn’t just good for the economy; it helps keep our community vibrant and connected.

SUMMARY:Monument Hill Kiwanis Peach Pickup
DESCRIPTION:Each fall Monument Hill Kiwanis Club (MHKC) offers delicious peaches for sale to the public and directs all net proceeds back into the community. That’s a combination that works to everyone’s benefit.\n Palisade peaches have an outstanding reputation for being large\, sweet and only available for a limited time. C&R Farms is a long-time partner with MHKC. Located on the Western Slope\, its microclimate provides warm winds from the mesas\, long summer days and cool nights. That’s perfect weather for growing peaches.\n This year’s peaches will be very competitively priced at $43 per 18 lb. box. Peaches will be available for pick up on August 2nd at Bear Creek Elementary School (1330 Creekside Dr) in Monument. You can order peaches on line at monumenthillkiwanis.org and clicking on the peach.\n For the past two years\, members of the Tri-Lakes community have ordered more than 1\,000 cases of hand-picked (and delivered within two days) fruit. Those sales will net about $10\,000 that funds grants back into the community. And while the formula for success may be simple\, the execution is not. Distribution day requires 52 volunteers to keep things running smoothly in two shifts of two hours each.
