SUMMARY:All Pikes Peak Reads: Author Rosemary Mosco
DESCRIPTION:Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) has announced their 2025 selections for All Pikes Peak Reads\, its annual community reading program. This year\, the Library District has returned to choosing one book for each age group as it has done in the past. The four selections include: \nFuzz by Mary Roach (adult) \nCold the Night\, Fast the Wolves by Meg Long (teen) \nLittle Monarchs by Jonathan Case (juvenile) \nButterflies Are Pretty…Gross! By Rosemary Mosco (juvenile) \n  \nAll Pikes Peak Reads provides residents with a unique opportunity to feel connected with their community by reading the same book together. The annual program focuses on celebrating literature\, improving community connections\, and fostering dialogue across social\, cultural\, and generational lines. Each year\, PPLD selects titles that focus on timely topics and plans a variety of community-wide programs and activities to pair with the book. This year’s titles all relate to nature\, whether it is exploring the surprising world of butterflies\, surviving in the winter wilderness\, learning about monarch butterfly migration\, or reading about human-wildlife interactions. \nYou may also join Pikes Peak Library District as they welcome this year’s authors to discuss their books during in-person or virtual author visits. Visits will be followed by an audience Q&A. At in-person visits\, the author will be available for book signing following the Q&A\, and books will be available for purchase during the event from Poor Richard’s Books & Gifts. \nRegistration is suggested for the in-person events but not required. When you register for one of the virtual events\, you will receive an email with the link to access the event.  Visit https://ppld.org/appr to register for these discussions: \n  \nAll Pikes Peak Reads Presents: Author Rosemary Mosco: Wed.\, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.\, Online \nAll Pikes Peak Reads Presents: Author Mary Roach: Sat.\, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m.\, Online \nAll Pikes Peak Reads Presents: Author Meg Long: Sat.\, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m.\, East Library \nAll Pikes Peak Reads Presents: Author and cartoonist Jonathan Case: Sat.\, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m.\, Library 21c

SUMMARY:Empty Bowls
DESCRIPTION:Community pulls together to benefit Tri-Lakes Cares \n“Food insecurity” is a euphemism\, but it’s also a fact of life even in the Tri-Lakes communities. And\, it’s only one of the human needs addressed by Tri-Lakes Cares a community-based\, volunteer supported\, resource center whose purpose is to improve people’s lives through emergency aid\, self-sufficiency and relief programs. It is the only food pantry and human services organization located in and serving northern El Paso County. They are the critical resource for those in need. Those needs are great and the fact that Tri-Lakes Cares continues to meet them is a tribute to the organization and the generous community that provides support. \nSome of that support comes from an event named Empty Bowls. It is dinner meant to remind participants that their participation benefits people to whom “food insecurity” is a reality. The Monument Hill Kiwanis Club (and its predecessor) has managed the event that also includes a popular silent auction. This year’s event will be held at Lewis-Palmer High School on Wednesday\, October 1st from 5 to 7:30 PM. \nTicket price is $25 per person ($30 at the door).  Tickets may be purchased at the Kiwanis website (MHKiwanis.org) and clicking on the photo of bowls. To facilitate family participation\, one child under the age of 12 is admitted free with a ticket holding adult.  Patrons may select a hand-made bowl and they are provided a meal of soup\, bread\, beverage and dessert which are provided by donations from local restaurants\, merchants\, clubs\, and churches. Those donations increase the net amount that flows through to Tri-Lakes Cares. \nSee the MHKiwanis.org website for more information and join us for a meeting to see what we’re all about.  See ad on previous page.
